Tough Love on Vh1: Is Tough Love the real thing, or just another hype?
Tough Love premiered on Vh1 this past week. Once in awhile, Vh1 will break mode and offer us something of value that is buried beneath the surface. Tough Love has that Vh1 reality/celebrity feel to it, but it might also have some pearls thrown into it; just for good measure.
We have a charismatic, no-holds barred matchmaker in Steven Ward. He is young and full of reality show ambition. Steven has grown up in the matchmaking business with his mother Jo-Ann, as his mentor.
A lot of his mom’s sensibilities might have rubbed off on Steve Ward. It’s still too early in this Tough Love show, to really tell. Will Mr. Ward truly be able to help even a couple of these single women in the game of Tough Love?
Why shouldn’t Tough Love be dismissed, without giving it a fair chance? Hopefully, this show will address some real relationship issues that singles find themselves up against.
There are more than enough single women and men searching for that special someone to make them feel whole. That partner for life - to love and hold - to call their own and grow into a real family together.
So many expectations are never met, in the real world’s game of love. All of these singles looking for just the right person to fall in love with. Then suddenly, those years are flying by and they can’t seem to understand why that special person never showed up. Many singles can’t even put their expectations and frustrations into words.
“People speak of love don’t know what they’re thinking of,
Wait around for the one who fits just like a glove,
Speak in terms of belief and belonging,
Try to fit some name to their longing”
Jackson Browne: “In The Shape of a Heart”
Too often, many singles simply give up, fall through the cracks and remain single. When the dating game turns into some self-defeating merry-go-round that can’t be broken out of, why not get help from a matchmaker?
This is a five minute trailer for Tough Love.
In all honesty, after watching the first episode of Tough Love, I could feel that old familiar Vh1 reality show blanket start smothering me. Was this show for real, or just another cheap carnival ride that Vh1 is so famous for staging?
A few of the single women that are on Tough Love are really going to be up against themselves, trying to adapt to changes that Steven Ward plans on putting them through. A few of these recruits have some serious self-esteem issues, too. Will Steven Ward, with the help of his mom, be able to break these women out of their shells long enough to find the right guys?
